The Siberian is a formal cat breed with a centuries-old origin as a landrace variety in Russia.
They grow to medium to medium-large in size and believed to be an ancestor of all modern long-haired cats.

The breed shares similarities with the Norwegian Forest Cat, and it is considered the national cat of Russia. The breed standard has been established by various cat fancier and breeder organizations worldwide since the late 1980s. It is selectively bred and pedigreed today, and officially recognized by at least seven major cat organizations.

 Siberian cats are known for being hypoallergenic, meaning that they may cause fewer allergic reactions in some people.

This is because they produce less of a protein called Fel-d1 which is found in their saliva, tears and feces.

Studies show that up to 95% of people with moderate to severe cat allergies may be able to live with a Siberian cat with little or no allergic reactions.
